Cracker Barrel Eyed for Maine Mall Site

The owner of the Wyndham Hotel is advertising Cracker Barrel restaurant as a future tenant at its 10-acre hotel site, across from the Maine Mall.

VanEastland LLC is offering development sites on its hotel property for lease or for sale. The sale prices for three advertised commercial sites range from $1.3 million to $2 million, according to Malone Commercial Properties. Ground leases will start at $100,000 a year.

Malone Commercial Properties also is advertising that Cracker Barrel will be a tenant on a fourth “pad site” at the hotel property. Cracker Barrel has been considering for the last few years developing a restaurant in the Maine Mall retail area, which extends from South Portland to Scarborough.

The South Portland Planning Board recently approved commercial additions to the Maine Mall Road hotel site, though the owner will have to improve site drainage and mitigate water pollution.

The real estate broker estimates daily traffic counts at more than 12,000 vehicles. The Tax Assessor values the hotel property at $11 million.

Get over it ! Maine is 95.8 % White and one of the most beautiful states in the nation. Is it perfect ? ... Do you live here ?... Did you move here ? .... Get over it.

Brett: “I’ve heard nothing good about Famous Dave’s.”

Really?  I’ve been there several times and thought it was excellent.  I first visited their location in Manchester, NH a few years ago, and ever since then, I had been hoping that they’d open a location in Maine.

They better open a location there! I hope it’s not another tease like the whole Scarborough Gateway thing. The Gateway would probably be doing better if a Cracker Barrel had located there. I’ve heard nothing good about Famous Dave’s. Here’s to hoping that it actually happens.

And I think their discrimination problems are in the past. I’ve seen plenty of non-Caucasian people eating at different CB locations. I’ve also seen lots of people that weren’t white working at them. I think it’ll be great for SoPo if it gets built. I know I’ll be there often for some country fried chicken.

Cracker Barrel has had a few anti-gay incidents as well.

With that in mind, Maine should be a good place for them.

Heartily agree, my family being a victim of Cracker Barrel’s racist past, I no longer patronise their restaurants.

Hopefully Cracker Barrel has put their racist past behind them.  It should be noted that this company has a long history of prejudice against African Americans in both service and hiring practices.

Scarborough’s loss our gain.  I look forward to it too.

Cracker Barrel is a great place to eat! Can’t wait for them to open and start serving their delicious menu.
