Fred Wilson Recalled for His Humor, BrillianceThe 50-year-old Willard Beach resident found shot to death in his luxury home last weekend was remembered Friday by friends for his “uncommon intelligence,” empathic nature and zest for life. A memorial service was held Friday morning at Hobbs Funeral Home, where more than 50 friends and colleagues gathered to celebrate Wilson’s life and share remembrances of the computer programmer. Several of Wilson’s former colleagues from Maine Medical Center—where he had worked until launching his own consulting firm—recalled a brilliant man who often held the solution to technical problems that vexed others. Richard Nacaula, Wilson’s close friend, spoke to the crowd of mourners. He said Wilson was “a sea of tranquility” who was more than happy to share his happiness as well as listen to the problems of others. Nacaula and other recalled Wilson for his skills as a gourmet cook and as an interior decorator. His talents were compared to Martha Stewart and Julia Childs. Wilson also loved to travel, ride his Harley-Davidson and attend Boston Gay Square Dances. Absent from the discussions was any mention of the circumstances of Wilson’s death. Wilson, who lived alone, died of a gunshot wound to the head and his body was discovered by police last Saturday, more than 12 hours after the shooting allegedly occurred. Two unidentified men were with him in the house when he was shot. The death has been ruled a homicide. But the investigation continues and no arrests have been made.
