Crosby: Child Sickened After Beach Exposure

UPDATE: The letter Gary Crosby passed along now appears in the comments section of the South Portlander, since the policy of the news site is to print only signed letters to the editor on the main blog.

Dear Editor:

I received this letter from a mother who lives in South Portland with her family.  She sent it to our Save Willard Beach website.  Due to the backlash and the fact it was a medical issue she chooses to remain anonymous.  These are all her words and not changed at all.

I saw this article and my thoughts were “who would be the first to want to use this as an excuse to ban dog access to Willard beach ? ” I did not have to wait long….........!

“.......all he did was kick some sand over the feces and leave…....”

You are, of course What’s Up, saying this is what happens in your personal experience at the Beach. I would say welcome to the wonderful world of Gary Crosby exaggeration, but I know you are already there.
This is the “rhetoric” I refer to, any misbehaviour by a dog anywhere is a claim to ban dog access to the Beach. This has to be done because there are no facts to substantiate a ban.

A letter to the editor in today’s Sunday Telegram:

“Keep Prouts Neck dogs off Scarborough Beach

August 9, 2009

My family and I are longtime visitors to Scarborough Beach and have a season pass. Recently, there was something new on the beach: a sign marking the boundary of the state park and denying beachgoers access to the area approaching Prouts Neck.

On this same day, my family and I watched a Prouts Neck dog walker allow his terrier to defecate on the public part of the beach.

When we called this to his attention, all he did was kick some sand over the feces and leave with his two dogs.

The message seems clear: Prouts Neck residents consider Scarborough Beach little more than a sandbox for their dogs to use as a bathroom.

If this new line has been drawn in the sand, then let’s keep the dogs of Prouts Neck from using the public area for a restroom.

Portland”

Sure sounds familiar!

There you go Gary…........you have hoodwinked two more with your scare tactics ! I wonder if momwith2kids will think about what she is looking at ? Mind you I must admit that good old Dan did a good job with his camera and zoom lens from his deck overlooking the Beach. I bet he could get some really good pictures of people picking up after their dogs, if he wanted to ! I bet he could get great pictures of the Beach during the week with almost no dogs there, that is, of course, again if he wanted to.
Your preferences over peoples enjoyment…......hmmm something sounds a bit ‘not right’ should we say Gary ?

momwith2kids,  Your welcome.  I truly believe all people need to do is see what really goes on at the beach and then make their decision based on that.  If you think that was gross just think if we lose the referendum.  It will be twice as bad.

By momwith2kids on 2009 08 07

That is disgusting! Thank you Gary for posting the link and helping me and my husband decide how we’ll vote.

Gary…......I had hopes, I really had hopes that you at were, at last, going to present something factual ! What a disappointment. I do not suppose you have any pictures of people picking up after their dogs ? No I did not think so ! Same old rhetoric, same old scare tactics.
Please anyone seeing these notices leave them alone….....let Gary et al have their say. I am sure most people with intelligence can read between the lines.

Gary,

Why don’t you post your poster on the SWB website?  That way you can reach a broader audience and anyone reading the South Portlander can also access it.

By Anthony Young  (ayoungcom@aol.com) on 2009 08 06

I have never seen your poster Gary….........it would be fascinating to see what it says. I mean you have never posted any facts here, so it would be interesting seeing something factual from you.
I have your list of “facts” ready for you to shew me if you do reconsider a “meet” !

So if that is the case as you state it over and over.  Why does someone keep taking down the posters I put up at the beach entrance?  If it’s not a problem then you and others should not mind having people learn what goes on before they get to the beach.  What I put on them is factual.  Behavior like that from the pro dog side does not surprise me.  So if you are all proud of your dogs and what they do on the beach leave the posters up.  Be courteous enough to leave the posters up and have a debate in the public eye.  No one complained from our side when you folks where down giving out information.
