SoPo Voters Defeat TABOR 2

South Portland voters refused to support TABOR 2, or the Maine Tax Relief Initiative, according to unofficial voting results on the statewide referendum.

The citywide vote was 7,364-3,872. None of the city’s five districts supported the measure.

TABOR 2 would have put limits on government spending, and required voter approval for certain tax increases.

The South Portland City Council had opposed passage of the state referendum.
