Message: South Portland Project Scholarship issued the following press release: At South Portland High School’s June 5 Senior Final Assembly, South Portland Project Scholarship (SPPS) awarded 22 scholarships to graduating seniors, according to Ralph Cabana, co-chair of the organization. SPPS is a community-based initiative committed to providing scholarship assistance to SPHS graduates as they pursue their higher education goals and aspirations. “Our immediate goal is to ensure that all graduates who apply for a local scholarship receive one”, declares Cabana. Alumni from across the country, local businesses, organizations and and the SPHS graduating classes of 2007, 2008 and 2009 have all donated to support these efforts. In voicing their support for SPPS, M.L. “Jack” Gibson says, “A solid education is the foundation for personal and societal gain.” Ruth-Anne Hugo Gibson adds, “An education is an asset that cannot be taken away from you”. Wayne and Betsy Ross assert, “We are grateful that more and more students from SPHS will be able to further their education through the efforts of this wonderful organization. South Portland Project Scholarship is a worthy cause and we, as South Portland citizens, are very happy that we can support these efforts.” In the words of Linda Sturm, SPHS Guidance Counselor and SPPS co-chair, “We hope that be decreasing the amount of out-of-pocket expenses and loans for families, we will encourage more SPHS students not only to go to college, but also to persist to graduation.” More information about South Portland Project Scholarship can be found at projectscholarship.spsd.org. http://www.southportlander.com/index.php/1018/
