August home sales in South Portland, Maine, seem to indicate that the real estate market is slow, with not many homes fetching top dollar. Only two single-family homes sold for more than $300,000—one on Elderberry Drive, off of Highland, and the other on Cross Meadow Road.

Housing Graph Shows Downturn in Home Sales
This graph shows the fluctuations in South Portland home sales by quarter, with a distinct downward trend in volume as the economy has worsened. Notice how housing sales slow in the dead of winter, a normal pattern in severe climates like Maine’s.

Main Street Motel in South Portland Fetches $2 Million
Here are more South Portland, Maine, real estate sales for May and through June 8. Note that the two big-ticket sales were for commercial buildings. An office building at 9 Donald Dean Dr., near the Maine Mall, sold for $1.25 million, while a Main Street motel fetched $2 million.
